Can you retrieve trouble code from a 1999 dodge ram 1500 without a scanner? - Answers (2024)

I don't believe so. Some dodge vehicles (98 Caravan and 2001 andup) that have digital odometer displays will give codes if you holdthe odometer reset button while turning the ignition to run. With1999 Jeep and up Grand Cherokee, you can pull codes by switchingthe key on and off 3 times, but not quickly (as with earliermodels). You turn it to on so the odometer turns on, turn it off,and then back on, wait for the light to turn on, etc. On the fourthtime you'll get a code, or you'll get the word "done."

It would be easier and less complicated to just have thecomputer scanned at a dealership.
